Pica and Polydipsia webinar

This is a training video we use with our employees, and some family members have asked us to share with them. We hope you find it interesting and useful.

Pica has been defined as the repeated and compulsive consumption of inedible items which have no nutritional value.

Polydipsia involves the constant desire to drink any type of liquid (for example, bleach or toiletries) even if the individual is not thirsty.

Pica is most commonly found in individuals with an intellectual disability and who are autistic, with prevalence among individuals with intellectual disability increasing with severity of intellectual disability.

However, pica is often under identified, under-reported and undertreated, thus prevalence is difficult to ascertain.
