Our support
Our ambition is for people to experience a sense of belonging, and enjoy a fuller life, no matter how complex their personal situation.
That’s why all our support packages are unique, recognising the distinct needs, ambitions, likes and dislikes of each person.
Getting this right is dependent on a real understanding of what matters to them, so we work closely with their families and others in their lives to build support plans that really work for them.
We’re experienced in working with commissioners on transitions from secure hospitals and assessment and treatment units. Our commitment to this work is driven by our core belief in community-based support, and the protection of people’s human rights.
We work hard to build rapport and trust with everyone we support, reducing need for chemical or physical restraint – and, gradually, the amount of support they need to enjoy life.
What drives us?
We asked our support teams about their connection with the people we support, and this is what they told us …
- We love what we do and finding out what makes you, ‘you’.
- We love seeing the progress you can make, encouraging your individuality, your confidence and your independence.
- We love to help you find opportunities in life, work and play, so you can flourish and have fun!
- We love to go the extra mile, investing in our team so that their skills are focused on expanding people’s lives.
- We believe life is about each person experiencing their own laughter, positivity and joy.
We work on the principle that well-supported people support people well.
We know the bedrock of our support is our workforce, and we are committed to giving them all the support they need to excel in their roles. All our employees go through a comprehensive induction and in-house training programme, which is accredited by Skills for Care. We put Active Support and Positive Behavioural Support at the centre of what we do and this is reflected throughout people’s training, which is ongoing throughout their careers with Avenues.
We support people from 18 years old through to end of life, using a mix of supported living, residential and outreach services.
- Our operational staff are dedicated to their work and proud to be part of Avenues, staying with us for an average of six years. Read what they think of their work here.
- Every day Avenues provides more than 6000 hours of support to around 600 people.
