Rob's Blog: My trip to see Man U

Rob, who is supported by Avenues, talks about his recent trip to Manchester, and how it gave him the chance to do something he had always wanted to.

‘In April I went to Manchester with my Keyworker from Avenues, Jakki. The plan all started when me and Jakki started working together, we were getting to know each other and I mentioned that I had always wanted to go to a Manchester United game at Old Trafford. I’ve always supported Man U and I’m a huge football fan.

Jakki started looking for tickets and she came across a game, at Old Trafford, on my birthday; it’s like it was meant to be. Jakki didn’t think we would be able to get tickets, but she kept looking and managed to find some.

I was really excited to go, and it was a big game; Man U vs. Chelsea. Jakki and I went down to Manchester for the whole weekend. We went to the Imax to see Fast and Furious, which was something else I wanted to do. Then on the Sunday, we went to the match.

It was amazing. I was singing and cheering so much I lost my voice. And Man U won! Jakki said the best part was seeing how much I enjoyed myself. My best part was finally seeing the stadium; there was an amazing atmosphere and I couldn’t believe how big it was. To top it all off, Happy Birthday Rob came up on the big screen in lights.

Then on the Monday, I got to have an even closer look at the stadium. We went on a private tour, and got to see the whole thing. I had such a great weekend in Manchester and I got to see Man U play at home, at last!’
