Emerton Close – case study
Monday 2nd of January 2023People with profound and multiple disabilities need extensive support in all aspects of everyday life, from movement, to eating, personal hygiene and medication.
Their lives easily become defined by these needs, and their emotional, spiritual and psychological requirements can be relegated as they are ‘nursed’ through their days.
At Avenues we know this has a negative impact on their long-term health and wellbeing. By looking beyond people’s disability and medical diagnoses, we build understanding of the whole individual, so we can support them to experience fulfilment and joy in their lives.
They get to try things, make mistakes, learn and grow, just like everyone else.
Through this, health conditions stabilise and often improve, and they lead happier, more independent and longer lives.
