CQC report on COVID-19 deaths - Avenues response

02/06/2020

The CQC’s findings are a tragic demonstration of the consequences of the current COVID testing arrangements for people with learning disability and autism.

The current prioritisation of elderly people in care homes neglects the risks faced by younger vulnerable people who live in our communities, whose lives are equally valuable.

The outcome - that people’s loved ones are dying unnecessarily from this appalling disease – is surely unacceptable in a civilised society.

CEO Jo Land

The CQC analysis shows a 134% increase in the number of death among people with a learning disability and/or autism this year compared with the same period in 2019. Of the 386 people with who have died this year, 206 were as a result of suspected or confirmed COVID-19.
