This partnership project gathered the lived experiences and insights of people with a learning disability during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was designed to develop Personalised Care Champions, by increasing the skills and knowledge of people who are working directly with those living with learning disabilities.
The partners set out to understand the impact of COVID, identifying health interactions that worked well during the pandemic, and those which were less positive.
Video interviews capture people’s lived experiences of accessing health care, the effectiveness of Annual Health Checks and personalisation of their care plans.
It is now helping inform how to deliver services to people with learning disabilities. This includes personalised health and care plans which are based on “what matters to me”, offering choice and control, achieving shared decision making and empowering people to live and age well.
Avenues co-production manager Cressida Rapela led the focus groups with the people we support.
Project partners: Surrey Heartlands CCG, Avenues Group, Halow, Peak 15, Surrey Care Association and NHS England
