Avenues trustees commit to Charity Governance Code

13/10/2020

The Avenues Group Boards have signed up to the Charity Governance Code as part of our commitment to further strengthening all parts of the organisation – including the skills of our trustees.

The code supports our compliance with the law and regulations, and a culture where everything works towards fulfilling the charity’s vision.

The Group has also moved an overlapping board structure (also known as a common board), improving our governance by streamlining legal arrangements, reducing management time spent on governance, speeding up decision making and facilitating the provision of information to board members.

Group boards chair, Terry Rich, said: “We’re determined that Avenues delivers the best support possible, in line with its vision and purpose, and is well set to deliver this to more people who need it.

“This means that just like operational, administrative and executive staff, we as trustees must be constantly developing and improving.  Good governance is fundamental to charities’ success, and we have a responsibility to the organisation, the people it supports and the public to be the best trustees we can.”

Work already completed includes a review and action across a range of the charities functions, including the complaints and whistleblowing procedures.

Avenues has also responded to the Charity Commission latest Regulatory Alert, which can be viewed online.
