Avenues full of surprises for student police recruit
Monday 19th of August 2019A number of Avenues Services have been playing host to Kent student police officers as they undertake community placements as part of their recruit training.
The two day placements are part of the equality and diversity aspect of their training and according to Kent Police they are designed to equip them for future community interactions; “the placements enhance the knowledge and understanding of the subject by being immersed into a community group within Kent that may require the services of the police in the future…the student officers have the opportunity to feel the experience therefore providing them with a broad view of the needs that will assist the delivery of a tailored first class service to all the communities within Kent.”
The placements have been going ahead for a number of years across Avenues South East services. “We see it as a great opportunity to work together” said Dan Gower-Smith, Regional Director for Avenues South East and Welmede “It’s a chance for officers to develop appropriate skills to support people with learning disabilities in their day job”.
As the film below shows, for one young police recruit, Brendon White, the placement went way beyond what he was expecting from the ‘care’ industry and the people who work in it.
