Andrew’s team make his rugby dream come true

Thursday 5th of February 2026

Andrew often told his support team that he was from New Zealand, but it was only when his aunt and cousin came to visit that his fascination with the land of the silver fern was fully understood …

Many years ago, Andrew’s uncle relocated to New Zealand. When Andrew was young, his father took him to visit his uncle there. Andrew fell in love with the country, but one experience stood out above all others: watching the New Zealand national rugby team – the All Blacks.

During that visit, Andrew’s father and uncle took him to Eden Park Stadium in Auckland to watch what was one of the biggest rugby matches of the year – England versus New Zealand. That unforgettable experience sparked a lifelong fascination and admiration for the All Blacks.

Since moving to Langdon Park in Middlesex,  Andrew has often spoken to staff about rugby and his love for the All Blacks team. Over the years, they have kept trying to support Andrew to attend their matches, but tickets were often sold out or too expensive.

But this year Andrew’s dream finally came true when he was able to secure a ticket to watch England play New Zealand at Twickenham Stadium.

The match brought back cherished memories of the game he watched over 45 years ago in Auckland. Andrew had an amazing time at Twickenham, mingling with other rugby fans and supporters from both teams.

With his great sense of humour, Andrew quickly made friends and enjoyed the friendly banter that is part of the spirit of the game. He proudly shared his story of watching England and New Zealand play all those years ago, which many people enjoyed hearing.

Although England won the match, Andrew received plenty of encouragement and goodwill from fellow fans and left the stadium feeling happy, fulfilled, and full of excitement.

When Andrew returned home, he was absolutely thrilled and has not stopped talking about the match, the atmosphere, and the lovely people he met. This experience clearly meant a great deal to him and will remain a very special memory for years to come.

Andrew moved to Langdon Park in 2021 after being referred by his social worker.

The support he has had has helped him overcome the depression and loneliness he experienced when he was living on his own in Richmond.

“Andrew’s aunt and cousin regularly express their gratitude for the care, dedication, and ongoing support provided to Andrew”, explains Service Manager Kennedy Otieno.
“They have supported Andrew to develop and maintain his independence while ensuring his safety remains a priority. Andrew’s choices and decisions are always respected and positively encouraged, helping him work towards achieving his personal goals and dreams in life.”
