Message from Lesley Knight, Chief Executive - Southwark Home Care
Welcome to the new Home Care home page.
The Avenues Trust provide Home Care support to older people, to people with disabilities - in fact to anyone who has difficulty in managing every day tasks, in their own homes, without some support.
We currently operate in the London Borough of Southwark and in the Medway area. We specialise in offering support to people with challenging or specific needs and to people with Dementia, working with their carers to provide the best possible outcomes that supports people's choice to remain in their own homes.
Southwark Home Care
We have been working in the London Borough of Southwark for many years, employing around 130 staff to provide support to over 200 people. We work in partnership with the local authority, providing support staff to their specialist Dementia service.
We have recently had a celebration to acknowledge that around 40 of our staff have worked for us for over 20 years. We are proud of the continuity of service that we can offer to the people we support - in fact, when we totalled up the combined service of these staff it came to around 1000 years. When we compared the length of service of our staff, who have worked for Southwark Home Care for over 20 years, against the average in the home care industry our retention levels were over 30% compared to less that 2% for the average.
Many of the people we support were very kind in offering their congratulations and praise to 'their' care workers and we received a letter of thanks from Simon Hughes, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, and one of our local MP's, expressing his gratitude and hope that "Long may the great work that you do continue"
Medway Home Care
We have recently started working in Medway, providing general Home Care support, but also working on a number of specialist services.
- Enablement - we work with the people we support to assist them to regain lost skills, helping them to maintain their independence
- Night service - we provide a night-time call service, visitng people in their homes to assist with medication, comfort and dietary needs
- Dementia - we operate a Dementia Outreach Service, working with people who have Dementia and their carers. We provide weekly breaks for carers and work with people with Dementia to support them to go out in their communities to enjoy life.
- Home bathing - we offer a home bathing service
- We provide services to people with Direct Payments
- We will shortly be providing a service to people who are recovering from a stroke.
