The OASIS Service: "There if I need them"

 

OASIS - Older Adults Support in Southwark, is a service that supports older people with dementia.  Southwark Home Care provides support staff to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, working in partnership with South London and Maudsley NHS Trust, the Community Mental Health and Mental Health Older Adults teams.

Being supported by OASIS means that people can remain living at home for longer, with the increased social interaction and independence that goes with that.  As a result, people experience increased well-being through being supported to continue to be active.

Key to the service's success is that staff have the time to listen, to work with people to make choices, and then support them to make that happen.  Staff spend time assisting those with memory loss to re-learn everyday skills and support people to get out-and-about in their communities.
