What we do
Recent things we have been doing:
Along with Voluntary Action Within Kent, we have developed another report giving an update on our work in Swanley, working on people's person centred plans. Please take a look at our newsletter to find out what we've been up to!
John Taylor signed up to the Healthy Passport programme. Community Futures Kent was one of the organisations that supported the funding application for this project in West Kent. For more information about the Healthy Passport programme, click on their website
Vivienne Smith attended the annual Sevenoaks District Council civic dinner. Vivienne was one of a small number of guests who was invited to celebrate the incoming Chairman, Councillor Keith Loney. It was a lovely evening and Vivienne was able to meet the Mayor of Swanley and other very important people who work in our Sevenoaks District community.
John Taylor attended an evening at the Sevenoaks District School called 'A Peer Around White Hall'. It was part of the Sevenoaks Festival. This was a one man show by Lord Brian Ricks who is now a Member of the House of Lords. The evening was the story of his life using film clips and his memories. John was able to spend some time with Lord Ricks after the presentation and tell him about our work at Community Futures Kent.
John Taylor represented Community Futures Kent on the Good Health group. This is a group of people from across Kent who are working together to make the Health Service better for people with learning disabilities.
Simon Goldsmith and John Taylor met Alan Dyer, who is the Planning Policy Manager for Sevenoaks District Council, to talk about the Sevenoaks Local Development Framework. This is a big plan about new housing and developments in the District. John spoke about making sure people with learning disabilities have good housing. We have heard that there is going to be a housing needs survey in the future. Community Futures Kent has asked to be part of this.
Community Futures Kent is working with Voluntary Action Within Kent and Kent Adult Social Services to support people to make their own person centred plans. We are going to put on some training and work with the Swanley Day Service and local families. We will support people to think about what they want to do in the future and help them to do the things that they want. If you want to read how we are getting on so far, please take a look at our newsletter.
We have made an application for some money from the Garrett Foundation to buy photosymbols that will make written information easier. Photosymbols are photographs that will help people understand what written words are saying. Unfortunately we didn't get this money, but we are still trying to find other funding to buy photosymbols.
