All that Christmas jazz!

1 December 2011

The club is run by Community Futures Kent which is a charity supporting people with a learning disability in partnership with Kent Music. Community Futures Kent is part of the Avenues Trust Group of charitable organisations. The event was held on Tuesday 29th November at Amherst School in Sevenoaks and celebrated a successful first year of music-making for the jazz club which included the highlight of a live performance at the Sevenoaks Summer Festival in July. The evening was a double celebration as businessman Ken Deamer presented the club with a cheque for £2,624 raised at the Jones LangLaSalle annual Blackheath Traders evening in October. The money will be used to support the jazz club and other inclusive activities. Mr Deamer said: “I am delighted to support the Jazz Club and all that it stands for. Music is a great ways to bring people together, break down barriers and create friendships. It is something that deserves to continue and I am very proud to be a part of that.” Simon Goldsmith, Development Manager for Community Futures Kent, said: “We are delighted that Ken and his colleagues have supported us to continue the Jazz Club.  The money raised will fund our work until the summer and enable us to continue to bring music in all its forms to the widest possible audience. The club has helped people with a learning disability to build new friendships and learn new skills from experienced musicians. We would like to thank Kent Music, the Amherst School and all our members for their time and commitment to such an important whole community project.” Sue Marlow, West Kent, Music Development Worker for Kent Music, said:“This project embodies our organisation’s aims to build lasting partnerships, create inclusive community activities and to bring the opportunities, enjoyment and benefits of music experiences to everyone. We are very grateful to Amherst School, local jazz musicians and Joe Browne, our inspiring leader, for all their support. We are looking forward to a long, successful and creative partnership with Community Futures Kent.”
